Yandisa SikweyiyaCo-Investigator

Associate Professor Yandisa Sikweyiya is a Specialist Scientist at the Gender and Health Research Unit of the South African Medical Research Council and an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Public Health. He is an established researcher with a C2 rating from the South Africa National Research Foundation (NRF). A key focus of his research has been on understanding the drivers and risk factors for experiencing (women) and perpetrating (men) gender-based violence in South Africa. He has a strong interest in research and evaluation of theory-informed interventions to prevent violence against women on men and masculinities, the intersection of masculinities and use of violence by men. As a scientist, he has successfully led large quantitative surveys and qualitative studies as a project manager, co-investigator and principal investigator in South Africa, Papua New Guinea and Ghana. Through this work, he has acquired a diverse range of expert skills and knowledge about how to approach and successfully carry out studies with women and men on sensitive topics including gender-based violence and HIV in the Global South settings. As a co-investigator, he recently works with Drs Machisa and Mahlangu on the Ntombi Vimbela! formative research implemented in selected university and college campuses in South Africa.
