About the Funding

Funding is available to researchers at institutions of higher education (IHE) in the Global South to conduct violence prevention research on their college or university campus(es). Early career applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. The Global College Campus Violence Prevention Network (CGVP Network) will support grantees at levels of $35,000 – $50,000 USD for 18-24 months of funding for research to 1) assess the scope, determinants and consequences of campus-based sexual assault, harassment, stalking, dating violence and other forms of gender-based violence, and 2) design, improve and evaluate policies, programs, and resources to prevent and respond to violence.

Scope of Research

Research proposed through this funding mechanism should be consistent with the stated mission of the GCVP Network. This small grant program seeks to provide funding for novel research projects that contribute to forward movement in the field of campus-base violence prevention across the globe. Types of projects that may be supported include (but are not limited to):

  • Formative research to design tools and methods for assessing the prevalence and determinants of different forms of violence on university campuses or to design violence prevention programs.
  • The development of tools for measuring gender-based violence on college campuses.
  • Piloting, adapting, testing and/or scale-up of new/promising programs to prevent campus-violence.
  • Self-contained research projects that are stand alone or that fit in a larger project, to build on, or support prevention or response of campus- violence, including formative, pilot or feasibility studies.
  • Adding a new component/arm to an already funded intervention that can provide additional insight into the effectiveness of intervention components.
  • Secondary analysis of existing data.
  • Studies to adapt current campus programs or policies to meet the needs of under-represented and/or under-served student groups (e.g., ethnic minorities, sexual and gender minority students).
  • Studies to assess the impact, community perception or provider opinion of existing campus-based violence prevention programs or of existing services for survivors of violence.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Will you accept applications for research to be conducted in the United States?

No. This opportunity is limited to applicants from groups working in the Global South. This includes countries classified
as low or middle income. You can see the 2022-2023 World Bank country classifications (by income level) here.

I conduct research in a low-income country setting but I am based in a high income country setting. Am I eligible to apply for this grant?

High income country researchers who are collaborating with low or middle income country (LMIC) university partners are eligible to apply but at least 95% of the funding must go to the LMIC institution.

I work at a university but I am not a professor. Am I eligible to apply for this grant as an investigator or the lead investigator?

It depends. The lead investigator or principal investigator (PI) is the individual responsible for the preparation, conduct,
and administration of the research grant. Before you begin to develop a letter of interest (or full proposal), it is
important to be sure you are eligible to serve as an investigator at your institution. Please check eligibility criteria at your institution. We consider individuals to be eligible to serve as a PI if they are employees (including in a faculty, staff or
other professional position) at a college or university. In certain cases, individuals working at an organization other than a college or university can apply as an investigator, i.e., if they are working directly with partners at an institution of
higher education (IHE). All research must be conducted on and in collaboration with the IHE.

Do the CVs count against the one-page limit for the letter of interest?

  8. Intended time needed to complete the project (18 to 24 months)

In addition to the one-page LOI, please also submit:

  1. CV/resume of lead investigator
  2. CV/resume of co-investigator(s), if relevant

Do we need to include a full budget for the letter of interest?

No. You only need to indicate the amount of funding you plan to request (between $35,000 and $50,000 USD).
